LATE MAYOR TOMMY SCHAFER TO BE HONORED POSTHUMOUSLY WITH JODY COMPRETTA PERSON OF PASSION AWARD
Hancock Co., Miss. May 12, 2021 – The Hancock Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Hollywood Casino Gulf Coast, is gearing up for a spectacular brunch on Thursday, May 13th at 11 a.m. Normally held as separate events, this year we will present the State of the County Address and Midyear Meeting, plus an update from the Hancock County Port & Harbor Commission. All this programming will take place over a jazz brunch featuring fare from the talented Food & Beverage team at Hollywood Casino Gulf Coast complete with bloody marys and mimosas and live music by Holly’s Dad’s Jazz Band.
“We’re looking forward to bringing our members together in person,” said Tish Williams, Executive Director of the Hancock Chamber. “The team at Hollywood has done a remarkable job of making sure this event will feel like a celebration of our resilience through 2020 and determination to succeed as a community.”
Attendees will also hear the State of the County Address, which will be delivered by Board President and District 4 Supervisor Scotty Adam. An update from the Hancock County Port & Harbor Commission will follow and will be given by new CEO, Bill Cotter.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Chamber will present the Jody Compretta Person of Passion Award. This prestigious award is given annually in memory of Jody Compretta, who exemplified what it means to be passionate, devoted and to work tirelessly to lift up other businesses and individuals. This year’s award will be given to the late Mayor Tommy Schafer of Diamondhead.
“We could think of no one more deserving than Tommy Schafer for the Jody Compretta Person of Passion Award,” Williams added. “He was tenacious, intelligent, and unshakeable in his devotion to Diamondhead. Although he’s no longer with us, the results of all he did for Hancock County in his time will be realized well into the future.”
The State of the County Address/Midyear Meeting is open to the public. Doors will open at 11 a.m. and the brunch buffet will open at 11:30 a.m. Individual tickets are available for $35 for Chamber members and $45 for guests. Tickets may be purchased online at
