Jason Farve, Area Regional Manager-West of Mississippi Power Company and board member of the Hancock County Chamber of Commerce, announced today that the company has made a $100,000 investment in Bay St. Louis through the renovation of the Valena C. Jones building and gymnasium that is home to the Boys and Girls Club – Gulf Coast.
“Through the Boys and Girls Club, our mission is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens,” said Keva Scott, Executive Director. “This generous donation from Mississippi Power will improve the gym and school facilities to support activities to promote healthy lifestyles for our children,” she said.
Mayor Mike Favre said renovating the Valena C. Jones building and gym for our children is a priority and the city is proud to be a part of this through the long standing, strong partnership with the Boys and Girls Club. He thanked local resident Art Clementine for bringing the need to restore the building to the attention of the City. “Thanks to Mississippi Power and other donors, this renovation is now possible.” he said.
Jason Farve said that as a native of the Bay, securing funds for this project was something that was very personal to him to be able to find a way to give back to the community where he grew up and to help children he sees every day.
“Serving as a fiscal manager for projects like this is what we do at the Hancock County Community Development Foundation,” said President John Wiebmer. “I cannot think of a project that is more important than helping the families and 500 young people who need after school care, while restoring a historically significant building for the City.”
