Each year, the Hancock Chamber of Commerce celebrates the outstanding achievements of local businesses and nonprofits with its prestigious Business & Industry Awards. This year’s gala, known as Hancock County’s Academy Awards, will be held on Thursday, August 29th, at the Hollywood Casino Gulf Coast. Co-presented by the Hancock County Port & Harbor Commission, the event promises a night of celebration, featuring live music by Ross Grisham, Philman Ladner and Chris Daigle, a cash bar, and a silent auction benefiting the Hancock County Community Development Foundation. Bay St. Louis Business of the Year: Chiniche Engineering & Surveying

Chiniche Engineering & Surveying, a stalwart in civil engineering and land surveying, has been a cornerstone of the industry since 1971. Under the leadership of Jason Chiniche, who became owner in 2016, the company has expanded from four to 20 employees, enhancing its service quality and scope. Known for its high standards in design and construction management, as well as hydrographic and topographic surveying, Chiniche Engineering & Surveying recently set a new benchmark with its state-of-the-art office on Highway 90, raising the bar for commercial developments in Bay St. Louis.

Diamondhead Business of the Year: Ramada by Wyndham

The Ramada by Wyndham in Diamondhead has undergone a remarkable transformation under the ownership of Milan Mistry. Since August 2022, Mistry has revitalized the 140-room hotel, blending elegance with modern comfort. The renovation includes a stylish lobby, upgraded rooms, and a serene indoor pool area. The hotel’s expansive ballroom, with a state-of-the-art kitchen, serves as a prime venue for events. The Ramada has become a symbol of Diamondhead’s growth and innovation, offering a luxurious experience that combines sophistication with community spirit.

Waveland Business of the Year: Juan Tequilas

Juan Tequila’s in Waveland is celebrated for its exceptional Mexican cuisine and warm hospitality. Situated on Highway 90, this beloved restaurant is known for its authentic dishes, including sizzling fajitas and signature margaritas. The dedicated staff at Juan Tequila’s create a welcoming atmosphere that makes every dining experience memorable. Its commitment to quality and service, combined with its role as a community favorite, makes Juan Tequila’s a standout nominee for Business of the Year.

Kiln/Hancock County Business of the Year: La Terre Farms

La Terre Farms, founded by Teri and Bubba together with their son, Connor, transitioned from timber harvesting to flower farming during the pandemic. Embracing a new venture with flower farming, the Wyly family has turned their property into a thriving business. The farm provides locally grown flowers for local florists and has become known for its holiday greenery. La Terre Farms also hosts a variety of events, from farm-to-table dinners to flower arranging classes.  Their dedication and innovative spirit have established La Terre Farms as a cornerstone of local agriculture and community life.

Nonprofit of the Year: The Library Foundation of Hancock County

The Library Foundation of Hancock County, established in 1995, plays a vital role in enhancing the Hancock County Library System through crucial private funding. Dedicated to providing the “Margin of Excellence” for library programs and facilities, the Foundation supports a range of initiatives, including the Holiday Tree Gala, HCLS Fan Fest, and the Homegrown Literary Arts Festival. Past successes include funding children’s AWE computers and maker space equipment, significantly boosting the library’s resources. The Foundation’s continued impact relies on generous community support, ensuring that the Hancock County Library System remains a hub of knowledge and creativity.
