This year HEM FEST goes to SPAIN and will feature two signature events: the Patron Party and Running of the Bulls to benefit the Ground Zero Hurricane Museum in Waveland.
On Friday, July 20 from 7-10pm, dance the night away to Spanish tunes by Flamenco guitarist Shan Kenner. Live the full life as you indulge in a “moveable feast” of cuisine and signature cocktails on the 119th Birthday of Ernest Hemingway at the Waveland Civic Center. Celebrate the life of this Pulitzer Prize-winning author who left a powerful legacy for his zest for life, literary accomplishments and enduring affection for the islands.
“Events that celebrate Hemingway’s legacy can be found throughout the United States and for the second year we are bringing this to Waveland through our own signature celebration,” said LiLi Stahler Murphy, Chairman of the Ground Zero Hurricane Museum.
During his Key West residence, Hemingway wrote some of his most enduring works and spent his leisure hours fishing and socializing with local and literary cohorts. “Each year, we want to invite fans of his writing and exuberant lifestyle to come together in Waveland for HemFest to celebrate his life,” said Starr Chapman, co-owner of The Rum Kitchen there.
Ernest Hemingway once said, never confuse movement with action and with this in mind, Starr and her husband Chappy are preparing a tantalizing four course moveable feast of the delicacies of Spain that also feature signature cocktails with each course.
The event also offers guests a tempting “cigar lounge” and for those who can, enter the Hemingway look-a-like contest to win some exciting prizes. Literary buffs can expand their library with titles from Bay Books, and the work of Artist Scharonne Herrington will be featured in a live auction.
Advance tickets are $66 per person or $119 for two and are limited to the first 250 patrons. At the door, tickets are $75 per person or $140 for two.
On Saturday, July 21 HEM FEST IN SPAIN continues with the RUNNING OF THE BULLS. This NO BULL FUN RUN is for all ages.
