This week, during the Inaugural Cuz’s for the Cause Fundraiser, the community came out in full force to raise nearly $6,000 to help 23 causes that are under the Hancock Community Development Foundation.
“We are honored to have the opportunity to sponsor this event,” said Christy Barnes, co-owner with Melvin of Cuz’s Old Town Oyster Bar & Grill. “The Foundation helped us tremendously after Katrina and we wanted to do something to give back.”
The crowd of well-wishers enjoyed Cuz’s famous New Orleans style cuisine while rocking to the sounds of the Dave Mayley Band featuring Foundation chair Leslie Henderson and introducing local businessman Kevin Estrade.
“When you can make one small donation to help support the work of 23 different causes in our community that’s something to celebrate,” said Henderson.
Proceeds raised benefit the Hancock Community Development Foundation, a 501 (c) (3) non-profit charity founded by the Chamber of Commerce more than a decade ago. The Foundation acts as an umbrella organization, incubating and supporting community causes that range from the arts to education, historic preservation to beautification, greenways and byways, youth and safety programs, park improvements and small business and leadership initiatives.

“The way the community came out to support the Foundation through this event surpassed all of our expectations,” said event chair, Dr. Cherie Labat. “We want all of our donors to know how much we appreciate their support.”
